It may look like your average neighborhood breakfast/lunch cafe, but Rooster Boy Cafe is anything but!
A foodie friend saw a write-up in the newspaper and told my wife about this place. We went a couple of days later for a late breakfast. We were immediately greeted by everyone that works there - the owner/chef and two professional-type wait staff and the incredible aroma of fresh baking scones. There was only one other table of customers and we later found out this was their first "soft opening" day. It was a beautiful day so we sat in the shade outside.
We ordered some scones and the ShakShouka (1 scrambled egg with chives served on a brown rice brisket) and the Hearty Start (Egg frittata with kale, spinach, onions & fine herbs - Gluten Free) to share. The scones were not yet ready so we ate those last and boy were they dessert! My wife Nana makes excellent scones and these rivaled hers - buttery soft and toasty at the same time.
The scrambled eggs had some additional herbs in addition to the chives and they made the eggs scrumptious! The way I judge dishes with multiple herbs is to look for balance. This dish was perfect.
The egg frittata was very reminiscent of ones I had in Spain when I worked there - I haven't had any that good until the Rooster Boy! I know Kale is good for you, but I normally don't order it and instead opt for the Spinach, this had both and with the onions and herbs what's not to like - healthy and good.
After the first couple of bites, we were planning our next visit.
